ABATEMENT IN CAPETOWN. RAPIDLY SPREADING IN THE COUNTRY. 1 (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received October 1(5 7.40 p.m. CAPETOWN," October 15. There are. evident signs of the abatement of the influenza here, but it is spreading in the country districts. Johannesburg reports no abatement, and Kimberlcv's death roll exceeds 3000. The Government has decided to close all places of entertainment throughout the union. An official statement says that steamers arrived at Capetown on September 12. with 43 cases on board. The passengers were isolated, and not till the first week in October did Capetown develop the epidemic in its pre«nt proportions. The statement adds at no eases are known anywhere of influenza so rapidly assuming such violent characteristics.
