MOTOR ACCIDENT

NINE PERSONS INJURED. By Telegraph—Press Association. HAWERA, Saturday. . A serious accident occurred near Normanby dairy factory early this morning, it appears that J. Russell, a taxi proprietor, was motoring a party of nine from Ellhaui to Hawera after a, dance, when one of the hack.tyres blew out. This was followed by a succession of blowouts, causing the car to overbalance and overturn, but, completing the somersault, it righted itself. Fortunately the occupants were thrown clear, but all were injured more or less. Those brought to the Hawera hospital are: Misses Ada Dunn, right collarbone broken; Marion Ounn, both collarbones broken; Miss Turner, right foot injured; J. Russell, driver of the car, injuries to face (he was able to he removed home, after receiving attention) ; and Whittakcr, mostly head bruises. All the patients are doing as well as can be expected. The others, who were taken to Mrs Walshe's hotel, Normanby, arc Miss Madge Dunn, unconscious, and Misses Walshe, O'Connor and Tons, all suffering from shock and bruises. Arrangements were to be made to bring Miss Dunn to the hospital, but she was still unconscious this morning. The car was considerably damaged. The hood was down, and this saved more serious results.
