Sir Douglas Haig reports local lighting along the line of the Selle river between Le Cateau and Solesmes. We steadily progressed north-west of Solesmes towards the Selle Valley, and drove out the enemy rearguards at St. Vaast, St. Aubert, Villers en Cauchies and Avesnes Lesec. More to the northward we cleared the west bank of the Sensee canal between Arleux and Corbehem, both of which are in our possession. We are closely approaching the line of the canal westwards of Douai. Eastwards of Lens we captured Montigny, Haines and Annay. We infiicted numerous casualties on the German rearguards, and took prisoners in sharp local lighting on the whole of this front. FURTHER BRITISH PROGRESS. (Australian and N.Z. and Reuter.) Received October 14, 11.55 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 13, 5.20 a.m. Sir Douglas Haig reports that eastwards of the Scheldt canal we took possession of Montrecourt and reached the outskirts of Lieu St. Amand. In the Douai sector we are now within a few hundred yards of the town, and have captured Faubourg d'Esquerchin. Douai prison, and the greater part of Piers. Eastward of Annay we made progress along the south bank of the Nante Dexle canal towards Courieres.
