LEAMINGTON TOWN BOARD

ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. The first meeting of the newlyelected Leamington Town District Hoard was held on Thursday. Present: .Messrs W. White, il. Roche, 1.. Jenkins, J. T. Jarrett, Jas. Keeley, il. Bell and L. T. Keeley. Mr W. White was elected chairman. A petition signed by 23 ratepayers asked to have Burns street, from Cook street to Raleigh street, formed, as at present it was impassable for wheel traffic and dangerous for pedestrians.—lt was decided to appoint a sub-committee consisting (f Messrs Jas. Keeley, H. Roche, L. Jenkins, and the chairman, to go into the matter and report to the next meeting. A circular from the Auckland Railways League asked the Board to appoint a delegate to attend the conference in Wellington re public works within the province.—The secretary was instructed to write the League and inform them that while the Board was freely in sympathy with the movement, they regretted they would be unable to send a delegate. A circular from the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce re mass gathering at Hora Hora about November 27, to help in pushing forward tbe hydroelectric power scheme was received. — Mr H. Roche was appointed delegate to confer with the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce.

A petition signed by 14 ratepayers asked the Board to arrange for a sanitary service in the township.— The clerk was instructed to see the contractor for the borough and obtain cost of a service in Leamington. Messrs H. Roche, lly. Bell and the chairman were appointed a finance committee. The clerk said that Mr J. Learning's lease of Section 570 would expire on the 18th inst. The chairman considered that the two acres belonging to the Town Hall were to small for the Board's use and he thought the Board should retain Section 570, which consisted of 18 acres for its own use.—Agreed to. Mr Bell said he had seen Mr Hjorth, who was willing to erect the dividing fence between his own and the Board's property and charge half cost to the Board. —offer accepted.

DOMAIN BOARD. The same members then sat as the Leamington Domain Board. Mr Keeley said he had had the trimmed and the grass in the tennis court cut, so the courts were nowready for tennis players. Mr B dl said he understood that a club had been formed and thought there would have been 'an application before the Board at its meeting.
