HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council took place |asl night. 'His Worship the Mayor Mr J. H. Pow) presided, and there were also present Crs Mason, Trislram, Tidd, Rnell, Tomhs, Herbert, How. den, Young, Fraser Smith and Gosling. ABATTOIRS. Messrs Swurbrirk and Rwarbriek notified that tli■• deed of delegation in connection with the abattoir at Horotiu had been executed and stamped. The Department of Agriculture wrote that a certificate would he issued as soon as possible.—Received. DRIVERS' LICENSES. George Beagle applied for a motor 'bus driver's license.—Granted. A police report was received regarding a taxi driver who was recently convicted of being drunk while in charge of a motor car.—The Mayor and Crs. Tombs and Tidd were unpointed a conunillee jo interview the police in regard to issuing a warning to the man. It was thought the Council should iid lie too drastic seeing it was a first offence. A BAD DRAIN. Mr Geo. Jamicson, Coates street, Hamilton East, asked that an earth blockage put in the drain running between the sections fronting Wellington and Coates streets, put in by a householder in Wellington street, be removed. The supervisor reported that the blockage had been removed. The drain was badly graded, and household waste waters were lying in stagnant pools. The owners of properties through which the drain (a private one) passed should be asked to at once clean it out and keep it in a sanitary condition.

The recommendation of the supervisor was adopted. THE PALMERSTON ESTATE. Mr H. T. Gillies asked thai the dedication of three streets in the Palmerston estate should he completed as soon as possible. Mr Monckton (the purchaser of the property) w.is also anxious to know what the Council'proposed to do in regard to the immediate completion of the work on the streets. The Borough Solicitor is to be urged to expediate the dedication of the streets in terms of the agreement. The work on the streets will be proceeded with as soon as possihle. GENERAL. The -Women's National Reserve thanked the Council for the free use of the Town Hall on the occasion of the recent Cafe Chantant—Received. Messrs Rogers and Stace, Hamilton. wrote on behalf of Mrs A. E. Beale that one of her sections at Frank ton. Lot 10, High street, behind the power house, had been considerably damaged by the Council employees carting ovar ft. She desired that any damage done should be made good, and that the trespass be discontinued. She offered to sell the section for £lso.—Decided that the Council fence off the right-of-way adjoining, and that any damage done to the section be remedied. A. Morton, Kranktoe, asked that K«8 lx> supplied to five houses in Norton Road.—Referred to Gasworks Committee, with the g,is manager to rcJBcrt. Mr W. H. Worsley, president wrote that th e Hamilton Beautifying Society had no objection to th e i-'ire' Brigade erecting a ladder stand on the Society's plot in Anglesea street.—Decided to grant the firemen permission to erect the ladder under the sui>ervisioii of the works chairman and the supervisor.' Mr F. T. Innes, secretary Hamilton Beautifying Society, forwarded a letter! received from Wellington, stating that a conference in connection with the town planning movement would be held! ia Wellington early in November, when it was proposed to form a Dominion Town Planning Association.—Laid on the table.
