Dillicar, was Mr Frank Graham, who guessed the correct number, 119. • • • • • The next reunion of wives and mothers of men on active service will take place on Tuesday in the* Red O-oss rooms at 2.30 p.m. As this will hi: the. last gathering until the Christmas one, it is expected that there will be a large attendance. • • » • • Every Thursday morning brings two or three bright-faced little ones carrying a huge clothes basketful of flowers into the Red Cross stall. These young helpers to win the war are the representatives of the infant class of the Hamilton West school, and the flowers 4he product of their school garden. The money derived from the sale of these blossoms will be spent in gift parcels containing cards with the names of the donors on, so that some day a reply may be received from some grateful soldier showing that their small efforts had been appreciated by the lads who are paying so big a price to guard them. » • • • • Already kern interest is being displayed over the baby carnival which is to be held in November in conjunction with the fete day to be run for local funds. Each stall holder has nominated a baby as its special candidate and all moneys eolfceted by any stall will be placed to the credit of its own nominee. The list is awaiting the names of two babies, so I may not publish it until next week. * • • •

Mrs Norman Taylor, Gordonton, is throwing her grounds open for a garden party on November 9th. The proceeds are to be devoted to the forthcoming Gordonton stall and its baby candidate. There will be competitions in cooking, floral decorations, sewing and fancywork. for which prizes will be given to the successf.il exhibitors. There will also be tea and sideshows and many other attractions. As it is only a short run from town, 1 expect a fair number of motorists will take advantage of this opportunity of spending a pleasant hour in the country.

Mrs E. J. Mcars entertained a few friends on Friday evening as a sendoff to her brother, Pte. C. F. Bond, who is up from camp on llnal leave. The gorgeous red rhododendrons made brilliant decorations and cards provided the amifsement for the visitors. Mrs Mears wore a .gown of black silk and ninon, with curassier effects and made an ideal hostess. Among those present were Mesdames C. F. Bond, Jordan, Pillar, Cowles, McLeod, and Misses Vindin, T. Ring and Rothwell. ,Mrs Cowles and Mr McLeod were the trophy winners. • • • ■ •

Mrs F. T. Wilson gave a card evening on Wednesday. Her rooms were exquisitely decorated with pink anemones and may, and white iris. Five hundred was the game chosen, and at the close of the evening It was found that Mr and Mrs S. Fergusson had been successful in obtaining both first prizes. A delicious supper was served at the conclusion of cards. Mrs Wilson wore a handsome gown of black crepe de chine over pink and pink ninon top. Mesdames Douglas in a black silk and white top; Fergusson in blue silk: L. Ewen, grey tloral voile with relief of blue, T. Jolly, black velvet and white crepe de chine underbodice; Watty, bla?k gown with white; Bull, pale blue silk; Ewen, dark blue velvet; F. T. Jolly, black silk and echru lace; and Miss Watty, heliotrope georgette, were among the guests.
