The town is almost like a dead city. Business is practically at a standstill. Many shops have been closed, and the train and tram services have been reduced 50 per cent. The burials yesterday were 250. The epidemic, it is nonbelieved, has reached its height. In Kimberley business is suspended, except for food shops and chemists' supplies. Many of the Transvaal collieries are closed. Durban reports approximately 8000 cases in th e city, but no casualties have been recorded.
