FIRE SWEPT AREAS
MINISTER OF LANDS' REPORT. MARKED IMPROVEMENT NOTICEABLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Friday. Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister of Lands, returned yesterday after a visit to the Ilaetihi hie area, where he consulted with the Fire Relief Committee in connection with the method adopted for the distribution of relief, and examined the acVounts. He also visited those parts of the district which had suffered severely from the fire, and waa pleased to find that generally there was a decided improvement in the appear, ance of the country since his visit a few weeks ago. The settlers had received supplies of grass seed, and in the majority of cases 'iad resown the burnt area. The recent warm rains had been most beneficial, and in some places the grass was quite discernable.
