alleged inciting to murder.

(By Telegraph—Press Association), mi WELLINGTON, Friday. The arrest of Alfred Henry Chard yesterday provided an echo of the 1915 strike. Chard was charged that on November Bth, 1915, he tried to procure certain persons unknown to commit murder. The charge relates to a meeting of watersiders in Wellington during the big strike, whereat Chard is alleged to have made statements inciting his hearers to murder certain people. He then, it is believed, cleared out to San Francisco, and stayed there for some time. CHARGE WITHDRAWN. WITNESSES LEFT THE DOMINION ELLINGTON, Friday. When Chard appeared in Court this coming, the police asked leave to withdraw the charge, as some material witnesses had left the Dominion. Counsel for Chard stated that the report that the man had left for San Francisco immediately after the alleged offence, was incorrect. He remained in New Zealand two years after the strike, and then went to San Francisco. The case was withdrawn without prejudice.
