HAMILTON FIRE BOARD

QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Hamilton Kire Hoard was held last evening, there being present Messrs MacKinnon (chairman), Howden, Tristram, Kingston Pari', and Pavitt. Leave of absence was granted to Mr W. B. Saunders. Committee's Report. 'the 'ommittee of local members refollows:— Boundary Fences The committee # considers it is advisable to erect the necessary fence round the Hoard's property in Anglesea street, and have instructed the architect to call for tenders tor the work. Drying Hose—The committee recommends that when the boundary fences are erected, suitable apparatus be fixed to the posts for hanging the hose to dry, and that a concrete track be made alongside tin- fence on which to clean the hose.

Furniture—Although authorised by the last meeting fff tbe Board, the committee have not up to the present purchased any furniture, owing to the new station being not yet completed. The committee authorised' the necessary blinds to be fitted to the windows at the station.

Continuous Telephone Service—The committee endeavoured to obtain the necessary signatures to the petition for a continuous telephone service in Ham-

ilton, and engaged a man to do this ( work, hut up to the present, however, the required number of signatures has not been obtained . Couplings for New Hose—As instructed at last meeting of the Board, the superintendent'has had the old couplings fixed to the. new hose, and this is now in commission. • It was resolved on the motion of Mr Howden that the Minister be written to with a view to giving a continuous service. A tender for the erection of boundary fences was received from W. Moreland, and the matter was left in the hands of the local members with power to act. The other clauses were approved of, and the report adopted. Inspector Hugo's Report. A lengthy report dealing with technical matters in connection with his visit of inspection was received from Inspector Hugo. The inspector recommended that a cylinder of prest-o-lite gas be fitted in place of the acetylene generator.—On the motion of the chairman the inspector's recommendation was adopted, and it was also resolved to fit the electric switchboard downstairs. The report was adopted. Amalgamation of Brigades. A deputation representing the Frankton Fire Brigade, waited upon the Hoard, and matters affecting the amalgamation of both brigades were discuss•d in committee. The superintendent was also present, and amicable arrangements were entered into. The quarterly report of the superintendent' ivas read and adopted. Davis, re occupy l jax f°P floor of station and •r|ssisting driver, was received. Two new members for the brigade were approved, bringing the strength up to 18.
