DAIRY FARMERS' LEAGUE

BRANCH AT PATERANGI

There was a good attedance of dairy farmers at a meeting held at Paterangi on Saturday last for the purpose of forming a branch of the Dairy Farmers' Protection League. Mr G. H. Silvester occupied the chair, and briefly, hut explicitly, explained the aims and objects of the Dairy Farmers' Protection League, leaving no doubt as to the urgent necessity of such an organisation. During the discussion the attitude of politicians who are responsible for the tax was adversely criticised, special comment being made on the utterances of responsible members of the Government, one having been reported as stating, "he was very pleased to know the dairy farmers were now reconciled to the tax, and all opposition had disappeared, in fact it was no tax at all." It was pointed out that a dairyman milking 100 cows, averaging 2001b fat per season contributed £62 10s of his earnings to the pet scheme; 50 cows, £3l ss; 25 cows, £ls 12s 6d; or a cow tax of 12s 6d per head. The mtion to form a branch was unanimously carried, all present being enrolled. Mr G. H. Silvester was appointed chairman; Mr E. Brennan, hon. sec.; Messrs W .Scott, W. Hollister and G. H. Silvester, committee. The annual subscription was fixed at 2s 6d .
