FAREWELL SOCIAL AT FRANKTON
A very large attendance from all parts of the district met together in the Frankton Hall Monday night, the occasion being a farewell to Mr G. Tapp, of Frankton, who leaves for Trentham to-day. The gathering took the form of a "smoker." Mr C. N. Flyger occupied the chair, and great praise was due to him for the manner in which he so ably performed the duties of his office, much of the success of the evening being largely due to him. The evening passed all too quickly in song and story. A very lengthy toast-list was honoured, including "The King," "The Navy," "Sports at the Front," etc. Mr Wilson, of Frankton, spoke at some length on the good work of the navy, and was heartily applauded on resuming his seat. Mr C. N. Flyger had the toast of the evening, "Our Guest," and in a neat and appropriate speech spoke of the good qualities of Mr G. Tapp both as a citizen and in his professional capacity. He was sure he would "run as straight" on the field of battle as he had done in the racing field. He also invited anyone present to speak, and most of those present spoke of the good qualities of the guest and all wished him God-speed and a safe return. The guest was the recipient of a pocket wallet, money belt, and a nice pair of field-glasses, subscribed for bj the "sports" of the district. Songs were rendered by Messrs T. Johnson, J. French, S. Hodge, J. Ryan, W. Jordan, W. Hendry, F. Tutchen, and Organ, and a duet in Maori by Messrs Tutchen and Wiri. Mr E. Scott officiated at the piano in his usual able manner. The function, which was voted the best held in the hall, concluded by all singing "Auld Lang Syne" and "God Save the King."
