Mr and Mrs C. Holdaway, formerly of Master ton, who have been resident in the Ballance district for some years, are shortly leaving to take up their residence at Hamilton.

Mr J. Hawkins, chief clerk in the Railway Engineer's office, Grovmouth, has reined on superannuation, after 30 years' service, for eight of which he has been stationed on the Wc.st Coast. Mr Hawkins and family will be in future reside at Christchurch. Lieutenant-Colonel D'Arcv Chavtor, of Mar]ln muigh, who has been serving with the Base Depot of the Royal Naval Division in the Mediterranean for the past 17 months, nas relinquished his temporary commission in the Royal Marines on account of being transferred to the Armv.

Mr E. Newman, M.P, for Rangitikei, whose health has not been of the best, and whose public and other responsibilities prevent him from giving the full attention to company business that he considered necessary, has resigned his seat oil the board of directors of the Wellington Meat Export Company. Regret at his resignation was expressed yesterday at the annual meeting of shareholders in the company. Recruiting Sergeant-Major J. Sterritt, of the Hamilton Defence Staff, has been granted permission by the authorities to go on active service, and will leave for camp with the next hatch of >vinforcements on September 19. SergeantMajor Sterritt has been associated with this important branch of defence work since the outbreak of war, being assistant at Auckland prior to taking charge of work in No. 4 Group in December, of 1914. His position locally will be taken bv Sergeant-Major Purdom, who will be succeeded in his present yost, as Q.M.S. of the 4th Waikatos, by Q.M.S. ('. H. Jolly, who arrived !iom Auckland yesterday.
