NO SIGNS OF EARLY PEACE.
RAILWAYMEN'S PROTEST
AGAINST CAPITALIST METHODS
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, August 28.
Railwayman held a demonstration in Hyde Park to protest against the increased cost of living. Speakers addressed the crowd from live platforms. They vigorously denounced "the piratical methods of the capitalists." The keynote of the workers' attitude was no industrial truce unless there was fair play towards the workers. Resolutions were carried to the effect that trades union circles did not share in the belief of an early peace, and that there was a growing conviction, in view of the present output of material and munitions and also the preparations for eventualities, that the end was not yet in sight. A prominent Labour man declared that the war Would only end when the workers had given their best.
