FROZEN MEAT TRADE
SHORTAGE OF TRANSPORT. ALARM IN SOUTHLAND. By Telegraph.—l'ress Association. INVERCARGILL, Tuesday. The farmers of Southland were considerably alarmed when they realised that only one steamer would load meat at thf Bluff in June, taking only a few thousand carcases, not enough to relieve the works for a week. Feed is getting scarce, and the consequence will lie most serious unless space for another 100,000 carcases be allotted for dune or early in July. It is proposed to send a deputation to Wellington to lay the position before the Shipping Committee.
