A NAVAL FIGHT.
TORPEDO CRAFT, SUBMARINE AND DIRIGIBLE ENGAGED. AUSTRIAN BOATS SERIOUSLY DAMAGED. ITALIAN BOAT SANK BY OWN CHEW. Received May 30, 11.30 a.m. ROME, May 29. Official: The batteries on the Porto Coruni Canal seriously damaged the torpedo boat LBO, the destroyer Sella rerechuetze, and the scout Navaro, causing numerous casualties. The Heligoland and Czeyel, with three destroyers, attacked the Italian destroyer Turbine. They hit the boilers, but the Turbine fought for an hour despite a fire aboard. When her ammunition was exhausted the captain opened the seacocks. Thirty-six were rescued. The Italian squadron came up and seriously damaged the Heligoland and Czepel. Two Italian torpedo boats engaged a torpedo boat and two submarines, one of which was repeatedly struck and emitted dense smoke and sank. A dirigible bombed and hit several destroyers.
