ATHLETICS.

HOCKEY.

PINAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH.

WON BY MORRINSVILLE

I The Waikato Hockey Association control both Wednesday and Saturday teams, and yesterday the Kiwi and Morrinsville teams, winners of the Wednesday and Saturday Competitions respectively met at Claudelands and after an. interesting- game Morrinsville won by 5 goals to nil. Both teams were one short of their ordinary players, but emergencies hlled the vacant places. From the start the Kiwis made £he pace, but it was easily seen that the t;am lacked a responsible half line and directly the ball got to the Morrinsville forwards play shifted to the opposite end of the field. Hardly any of the scores were got from long crossfield passing, but were the results of scrambles in the circle. There, however, was one exception and that was when ths hall was sent smartly to A. Humphreys from the line, and that player sent honi-3 a. fine clean shot. This comment on the passing does not mean that the shooting was poor for on several occasions both teams put in some warm hits which were well stopped, especially 'by Harvey, the Kiwi goalkeeper. In the first spell Williams and Harkins scored for Morrinsville, and in the second spell Williams scored two more goals and A. Humphrey's one. The Kiwi were unlucky in not securing a goal for one was shot but the referee disallowed for some breach of the rules.

All the Morrinsville forwards, especially J. Love, played well, and H. Humphries was the pick 0 f the backs. For the Kiwis, Casey, Stone, Taylor, played well in the frontline! and McGtll, Hindman and Harvey worked hard in their positions although Hindman somewhat spoilt his play by not fielding the hall. By winning this same the MorrinsHooper's Cup for 1911-12, also the ville team become the holders of the winners of the medals presented o-v Mr Swarbrick. This team well deserve their win for they have played well together, and put in lots of practice under their skipper, Mr H. Humphrey's.
