WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING

The ordinary monthly meeting ol the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held this mornting, there being presentr-Messrs J. A. Young (cbairmani), Keeley, Dickinson, Bailley, Bollard, Lawrde, G. Day, Teasdale, G. Finch and Shaw. Apologies. Apologies were received for the absence o>f Messrs Ohepmell, Johnstone and Faterson and leave of absence was given. Land for School. The secretary of the Auckland Education Board wrote, stating that his Board had resolved to take no further action to acquire under the Public Wcrks Act, a portion of section, 101, for school site purposes at Horcti u .—Received. Probationers. Miss McLean the assistant Inspector of Hospitals wrote notifying the Board that Caroline Prentice, nursing sister, was undergoing am operation at Wanganui and therefore unable to accept appointment under the Board.—Received. . In this connection Miss McLean also wrote stating that the 'department was sending a native girl to take the appointment.—Reoeived. Renewal of Lease. W. Nisbel-Smith, Te Rapa, wrote complaining that the offer made , by the Board re renewal of lease, contending that the Board wanted to charge him for •impropementsi a~ade by him. This seemed to him to be unreasonable and he asked that the Board make a better offer. The Board decided to, offer the tenant a Glasgow lease on condition that he pay 5 per cent on the capital value for the ramainder of his present lease and 5 per cent on the unimproved value during his next term. The Board also instructed the secretary to advise Mr Calder that thb Board would also deal with bis lease in the same manner. Transfer. Mr A. Swarbrick wrote forwarding lease Hospital Board to J. L. Zajonskowski with transfer to the cnurch trustees endorsed, to which the Board decided to affix its seal. Particulars Required.

The secretary of the Taranaki Hospital Board wrote asking for a return of number of ratepayers, valuation, and revenue! received from Awakino country. The secretary reported, tbatj he had forwarded the following particulars : Ratepayers 17G, Valuation £301,16-1, revenue this year £l7l 2s 2d.. The action of the secretary in replying, on behalf of the Board was endorsed. Board'si Insurances'.

The State Fire Insurance office wrote mailing application for the fire insurance over the various property controlled by the 'board. In view of the urgent necessity for additional .accommodation for nurses the Board decided to instruct its architect to call tenders for additions to the nurses-' homes, returnable at next meietin<g. House Surgeon's Report. Number of patients in wards at last return, 08 males, 37 females ; admitted since, 56 males., 31 females ; deaths, o males ; discharged, 5 males ■lll females ; remaining at hate, 63 males, 2b females. The average daily number of patients, was 105. Water Supply. The surgeon \ reported that the water supply was iniadeiquate and that it was imperative that something should be done. The iron water from the new bore is very destructive not only to. clothing but is seriously corroding the pipes andduring the summer, unless something is done the hospital will hava to depend very largely on the water from the new bore. The Board left the matter in the hands of the Chairman and surgeon •to consult the board's architect and report.
