CHRISTIANITY.

ITS APPROACHING DEATH

EMPTY CHURCHES EXPLAINED.

BISHOP'S VIGOROUS SPEECH

(Per Press Association.—Copyright.)

(Received Sept. 21, 8.5 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 20. The Bishop of Carlisle, addressing the Diocesan Conference, declared that there was no incorporate relation between Christianity and the world to-day. The result was the dead mess, if not approaching death, of Christianity. The theological colleges sent forth men steeped in Caste feeHng, unable to speak and preach with conviction. Empty churches were partly due to the stereotyped anachronistic theology and idolatrous money worship, with a decreasing sense of the dignity of labor, producing industrial unrest and even despair amongst lower classes.
