Before the Royal Commission Mr Hyde, general manager of the Great Eastern railway declared that the men's demands were so extravagant that compliance therewith would have swept away his company's dividend. He opposed the recognition of Unions, which would not secure permament jx>ace.

(Received Sept. 20, 12.15 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 20. Only three trains on the Great Southern line in Ireland ran to-day. Letters have been greatly delayed and the mails have not been sent to England. Only one-fourth of the usual supply of butter has reached England. Prices in the Liverpool provincial markets are stifier. No further Irish supply is expected till .the strike is ended. The anialagamted executive at Dublin has invited the railway managers to co-operate with them to effect a settlement.

BUILDERS' LABORERS STRIKE
