The Maharajah 0 f Cooohbehar, a visitor to the Coronation, who was seized with an illness in July, is dead.

General regret is expressed at the death of M| W. J. Meredith, which occurred ax his resilience, Thorntonroad, Cambridge, on Monday evening. For some days past the deceased had been suffering- from pneumonia, which assumed such an acute form that death resulted somewhat speedily. The late Mr Meredith, who was highly respected in the community, leaves a widow and four children to mourn their loss.

There died on Monday at the early aae of 51 in the Hamilton Hospital, where he had undergone a serious operation, Mr Wm. Butt'who arrived from Scotland some fifteen months ago. In the Old Country the deceased was manager of a coal-mine and during his residence in Huntly has acted as a 'deputy in the Extended Mine. His knowledge, courtesy and helpfulness earned him the esteem of officials and employees, and his 'demise comes to all 'employed in the Extended almost as a personal loss. Mr Butt leaves a widow a large

grown-up family to mourn his loss, and to them the sincere sympathy of the residents goes nut .spontaneously.
