Mr (George George, director of Technical education, has 'been on a short visit to Hamilton in, consultation with the Board of Governors of the Hamilton High School, regarding matters of control of the technical classes.

At thei C mmercial Hotel last evening, a number of Masonic friends of Mr J. Baldy, of Hamilton, met to bid him good-bye on the occasion of his departure from Waikato for New South Wales. Mr Vail© was in the chair, and in expressing regret at the guest leaving Hamilton, asked his acceptance of a handsome pipe subscribed by his friends. He hoped that it would not he long before Mr Baldy came back to Waikiato, where he was sure of a hearty welcome. Several others present having spoken, Mr Baldy suitably replied. An adjournment was then made to the Strand Cafe, where supper was served and the rest of the evening spent in harmony.

The death occurred at Obinemutu on Wednesday last week of a notable Maori chief tainness, banned Taiapo te Kotuhl. She was ov<er 100 years of age, and had beeni blind and' a cripple for the last 15 or 20 years. Taiapo who was a woman of very considerable influence, was (according: to the Rotorua Times) the last of the old school of Maori rang»atiras. She bad a remarkable memory, being able to recite the genealogies of her people right up to the last. In her prime Taiapo had the influence and sway of a person of the highest rank.
