A sensation has been caused) through the publication of statements authorised by the Thiei Detective Agency that President Taft invited Mr Hearst to flood Canada with election literature favouring reciprocity. Mr Borden, the Conservative leader, has issued a manifesto pointing out that reciprocity me<ans the final absorption cf the Canadian fiscal system in that cf the United States.

ARRESTS IMMINENT
(Received Sept. 20, 1.10 p.m.) OTTAWA, Sept. 19. Sensational disclosures havie been made that President Taft arranged with Mr Hearst to send a special correspondent to O'ltawa to conduct the campaign on behalf of reproci% and in aid of the. Liberals in the fight. A storm has been aroused throughout the Dominion,. The Conservative journals accuse Mr Taft of heing an arch plotter and interfering with a foreign country's politics to bolster up the failing fortunes of the republican party. It is stated that Mr Hearst's representative is a close friend of Mr Taft, and bad arranged to participate in Mr Taft'st tour in September, but urgent orders sent him to Ottawa. There is also an election scandal in Quebec East. Sir Wilfred Laurier's opponent asserts that he was offered a large sum cf money if he would retire!. His 'opponents declare that Le Due offered to retire if he was given a position, especially that of secretary to the Canadian Commission in Paris. Arrests are said to be imminent.
