FIRE AT TE AWAMUTU.

Excitement ran very high, and although the township possesses no alarm, a large crowd quickly assemhled. The news spreading to the picture show at the Town Hall, this building was puic:<ly emptied, and willing har.ds with axis and buckets, by pulling drwn -, wall leading to the main build-In:, and, by the free use '••'' water, saved the principal structure.

Immediately the outbreak was discovered, steps were taken to remove a quantity of kerosene and other oils from a shed close by. which, had it caught fire, would have resulted in considerably more damage being done. The wine store of the Te Awamutu hotel, which is situated next do-or became ignited, hut the wind; bans; in the opposite direction, this was soon extinguished. The damage is estimated at between £3OO and £4OO. which is covered- in the Commercial office, by a gsnernl risk over the whole peonerty.
