LONDON, Sept. 17

A fire broke out in the underground workings of a colliery at Chester-le-Street, Durham, when 81 workers were below.

The greatest anfsiety, was experienced until the. miners were rescued. They were got out in batches of live througn the upcast air shaft. The fire caused damage to the extent of £IO,OOO.
