THE STODDARD LECTURES
It is an old axiom that only by travel can the. mind be expanded. In these days travel, although cheap, cannot, for many reasons, be indulged in by the greater portion of the people. Current times and current events demand that we should know about the world at large. Being unable to travel there is happily left to us the opportunity of reading good works written by travellers who have placed on record their impressions and tho actual facts of lands visited. In this connection we know of nothing better than the comprehensive series of books embodying the famous Stoddard Lectures, a work new to New Zealand, but which has met with success whereever it has been placed. It is in fact a liberal education in history, biography and art, and comprises 250,000 miles of travel in an easy clair at home. Mr John L. Stoddard made a two year's tour of the world, and his books are classics. Resident" of Hamilton and Waikato generally will within a few days have an opportunity of seering this splendid series and judging their merit for themselves. Mrs A. L. Bullene, to whom the introduction of this work has been entrusted, will be in Hamilton and the vicinity for some days. We have skimmed the cream of the books, and have no hesitation in recommending them.
