BREACHES OF BY-LAWS. Two breaches of by-law cases came up for hearing before Messrs A. T. Atkin and F. McGudre, J.P.'s at the Hamilton Police Court this mornwhen W. Hood was fined 1/- and costs for riding a cycle on tbe Victoria street footpath ; a fine of 5/and costs being imposed on Francis Ellis, for driving a horse on tbe footpath in Hard ley street. ASSAULT. A young man named William Allen was convicted and fined £1 and 12/costs for an assault upon Theodore Wooley, in Victoria street, committed about a week ago. Sergeant Hastie described tbe act as on© entirely without provocation and stated that Allen had 'given way to excessive drinking of late. He therefore asked the Bench to 'issue a prohibition order against defendant. Tbe sergeant's request was granted.
