WELLINGTON. Wednesday. The Navy League Conference con today. 'j 2 rs.v.rt of the sub-committee regarding preliminary instruction in sea training was adopted. It was decided to approach the Government with a view to encouragfeg such instruction and to recommend the Government to establish oine or .nore shore training homes, to be conducted in connection with the training ships. A resolution was proposed, affirming the necessity of the Imperial Government laying down two keels for one in relation to the German navy, and caused some discussion. Mr James Allen protesting that this savoured of dictation to the British Government, said he was of opinion, in any oase, that nothing! less than three keels t 0 one were needed for the Empire. Ultimately the motion was .amended and carried as follows "This conference cordially endorses the principle of the parent league 0 f at least two keels for one in relation to the next strongest naval power and would ex-/ press its hearty approval of the gradual building up an Eastern fleet of Empire." A series of questions regarding the defence of the Empire are to be put to political candidates at the gjcneral election.
