PAVING THE WAY FOR
REFORM
(By Telegraph.—Press Associates.) WELLINGTON, January 7. | Tbe first issue of The School Jour< T rial, which is being published by the ' Education Department, is expected to be ready when the schools reassemble in February. A large number of applications have been received lor the position of editor, and an appjht- ' ment will shortly be made by Cabinet. The Minister for Education believes the journal will prove a very valuable adjunct to our educational ■system.
I lie Hon. Mr Fowlds, speaking of ihe School Journal, says there has beei considerable complaint from all parts ol the colony regarding lack of uniformity in our school books, a)*d tic expense incurred by parents in getting new ge ts of books when children are leaving one school district tor another. lam hoping that we shall be able to supply all snpp ementary reading matter by means of Ihe School Journal, and this wid* "'able us in time to publish a St»iid> arcl Keuder uniform for the whole colony, with the addition of a variety of selected, up-to-date matter publulled ~, the journal. This will be a much less expensive method of pro- ] viding uniformity than of attempting u> print such books as might be reqiu'ed to bring about uniformity."
