AN UNEXPECTED EXPLOSION.
A NARROW ESCAPE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, this day. A man named William Bourke, w jdle post splitting, applied a match to a fuse, but as it did not fizz in the ordinary way he thought it had not lighted. An unexpected explosion occurred which caused some other powder in a bag to explode. Bourke's clothes weie set on fire,but he quickly rolled into the river and escaped with burns on the head, face and arms.
