There were ssveral prosecutions under the Shops and Otiices Act, the defendants with onu exception pleading guilty to a failure to close thoir shops as directed by the Act and being ordered to pay the Costs. One defendant pleaded not guilty and will be dealt with at next sitting. CIVIL CASES. In the case of Green and Colebrook Ltd. ffor wh otn Mr MacDiarmi 1 appeared) v Lovett and Adams (the former being represented by Mr Gillies), the plaintiff claimed £2l Us lOd for goods supplied in IU-.U. Evidenoe was given by Mr M-y • for the phintiffs and by both defendants. B >th Counsel addressed the Court. Mr Gillies submitted that the liability of Lovett was that of a guarantor, and that it therefore required something in writ'ng to prove it. Mr MacDiarmid contended that tha liability was a joint one and that even if it were in the nature of a guarantee on Lovett's part, such guarantee was made complete by the letters from Lovett, which Mr Mayo had produced in evidence. His Worship held that the plaintiffs had established their oase and gave judgment for the amount claimed,
