GATHERING AT HUNTLY. Feom Ouk Own Cokbkspondent. On Thursday the Volunteer Hall was crowded by t:e looal volunteers and their lady friends, together with a large body of visiting volunteers from Auokland, who had come to Huntly to fire for the Stmmelhag Cup, The first part of the evening was devoted to a progressive euchre competition. 'l'here were nearly twenty fall tables, Captain Elliott who aoted %s manager, having his hands full in keeping thing! going. A presentation of shooting prizes won during the past three month« then took plaoe, those receiving trophies being: Belt and silver teapot, actingLieutenant A. Tnrner ; range prizes, Act-ing-Lieutenant Turner and Corporal Geo. Pearce; Mr A. Kobui' medal, Private J. D. Edkinsj 6et carvers, Aoting-Lieutenant H. C. Cummins; prizes pre«ented by Mr J. J. Craig, Sergeant S. R. Hammond, Acting. Lieutenant Cummins, Private H. Ryan, and Lance Corporal Kirkwoodj Company prizes, Sergeant Manning, Captain Elliott, Sergeant atone, Col.-Sargeant Crowder, Bugler E. Hall, Corporal Pearoe, LanoeCorporal Fleming and Private A. J. Parkes; Mr J. H. Niccolls' prizes (200 yards), Lieutenant Cummins, Private Boag, Captain Elliott and Sergeant Manning; (500 yards), Private A. C. Hall, Bugler E. Hall, Corporal Peace, Lieutenant Turner. Thereafter with danoing and singing a very pleasant time was spent, the committee having spared no pains to make the social the complete sucoess it undoubtedly was. In the annual oontest for the Simmellag Cup, shot at the range of the Huntly Rifles en Friday, teams representing "A " Battery, No. 9 G.A.V. (Coastguards), Nos. 1.41 and 3 Native Rifles and the Huntly Rifles competed. The conditions were seven "hots and one non - sighting counter at 200 and 500 yards; Bisley targets, any military position. When shooting commenced shortly after 6 a.m. the morning was dull and wet, the Huntly Rifles, who shot lirst, having to start amid depressing conditions which kept up during the whole day, a high and oold wind blowing in heavy gusts obliquely across the radge accompauied by showers of heavy rain, " A Battery. No. 9 Garrison Artillery (Coastguards). No. 3 Native Rifles retired from the contest in order to watch an exoiting finish which resulted in a victory for No. 2 Natives with a total of 511, No. 1 Natives Ooming second with 508, and the lluntly men third, with 505. As the cup has been won twice in succession by the No, 2 Natives, it thus becomes the proporty ■ f that corps. '
