DEFRAUDING ORCHARDISTS
A man has been arrested near Pahi, in the Kaipara district, on charges of having defrauded orchardists by selling them a worthless preparation, falsely representing it to be destructive of certain fruit-tree pests. Some time ago it was reported to the police at Wade that a man has been about in a trap selling tins of a blight spec.tic, and charging high pries. One man, it is alleged, bought jSIO worth, and others small amounts. The man is also reported to have stated, as an inducement to ho&itative customers, that he had sold quantities of the specific to a certain wellknown large orchardist at Warkworth, but inquiries proved that such sale did not take place. The police had tins of the stuff analysed by the Govarnmeut analyst, Mr Pond, who pronounced it worthless.
