BURGLARING A BANK.

ELECTRICITY USED. SYDNEY, September 24 A daring attempt was made to burgle the Pitt-street branch of the English and Scottish Bank. Entrance Was gained by tapping the electrical wires adjoining the building and utilising the current to fuse the iron bar over the lavatory. The burglars were thus enabled to reach the strong room, where they partially fused a hole in the heavy steel doors. They however departed, after an unsuccessful attempt, which evidently occupied from six in the morning till two in the afternoon of Sunday, as the engineer in charge of the electrical supply works noticed unusual fluctations between these hours, and was under the impression that a consumer was using an extra supply.
