THIRTY KILLED. MILITIA QUIETS THE CITY. NEW YORK, September 24. Severe anti-negro riots have occurred in Atlanta, owing to the newspapers announcing assaults on white women. On Saturday mobs from all parts of the city attacked every negro in the streets, using pistols, knives, sticks, aud stones. The police were powerless; the Mayor's -appeals were disregarded, and fire eugines vainly drenched the rioters. The trams were searched, and negro passengers badly beaten and killed. even when escorting negresses. One negro was stabbed to death on the Post Office steps. The militia finally ¥ quieted the city, but were powerless outside. It ia feared thirty innocent negroes were killed ; the hospitals are full of wounded, many mortally.
