THE NATAL RISING.
MANS ELL'S TROOPS ATTACKED.
MARITZBURG, May 7. Colonel Mansell reached Fort Yolland, eighteen miles west of Eshowe, aud reconnoitred towards Cetewayo's grave.
Whilst his force was travelling iu the forest, several shots were fired, wounding a trooper.
The troop was descending a hill in single file entering more open country when two hundred Zulus desperately charged the vanguard, the Natal Mounted Rifles, and almost got in amongst the troopers.
The Natal support rushed up, and the attack was repelled. Sixty Zulus were killed, and many wounded. Three Nataliana were wounded. A thousand rebels were seen, and there were indications that, while a portion made the first onslaught, the rnsfc were engaged in an encircling movement, which proved premature.
Colonel Mansell reports that the native police attached to the Natal Mounted troops behaved courageously and did good werk during the engagement.
