HAMILTON WEST DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.
A meeting of the committee of the above school was held last evening, when there were present -.—Messrs W. C. Davis (Chairman), M. A. Going, J. T. Davis, A. Merrington and J. E. Tidd.
The committee having viewed the school buildings, and it being evident that the alterations and additions would not be sufficiently advanci ' to allow of any portion being occupied for everal weeks, it was resolved to occupy in the meantime the Volunteer Hall, which had been placed at the disposal of the committee. The suitability of marquees was also discusfed.
It was further resolved not to assemble the children until Monday next, February Gth, in order to allow of various conveniences being attended to. Mr Worsley, in his report, stated that the school had been successful in securing at the recent examinations a junior certificate of proficiency, a national scholarship certificate and two passes in the university matriculation examination. Members noted with pleasure the&e successes, and a motion of congratulation was authorised to be tendered to the headmaster, Mr Worsley, and the high school assistant, Mr Wilson. It was mentioned that the matriculation passes were specially meri!o ious, as the successful candidates had only had two years'tuition in the high school, while in many centres it was not considered sdvisable to even present pupils without three years' special training. It was hoped parents would even more fully realise the great advantages naturally accruing from the establishment of such an institution in their midst. When the certificates are available, it was decided to publicly present them ; and also to extend an invitation to Messrs Edgecumbe and Greenslade, (the Waikato representatives on the Board of Education) to be present at the function, A number of matters of a routine character were also dealt with.
