.■'-"■: ■'■■ ;-ii> !*f :■■■■ r.rc :''i '' ' \ '■'■ ..Government addition' to the £2OO voted for the purpose of road makine in the Wairangi and Matahura .districts,-1 learn that an additional£2oo has been pro. mised through our member Hon. A. J. Cadman for prosecuting the same work. One half of this amount is to be,expended informing andfmakingjthe road; from'the •LakeJWaikare) landing up to the Moerangi and Mangapiko. roads.,. The carrying out oflhei work and expenditure of the grant will be entrusted,to.the Huntly Road Board in whose district tha.proposed roads will lie., to,the above there ;is a sum of over; £IOO, accrued " thirds;" which the Board will also have for expenditure in the same locality. -Mr Cadman in a letter to a resident 'ih'the"Wairangi district suggests that the work be let in small contracts amounting to say £3O or £4O. This would give settlers and others who may short 'iime'just now? an opportunity of teriden the work and so increase the benefits resulting froin its ex« penditure.v'The Huntly Road Board will no doubt make early application ito the Minister of Lands for, the first #2OO which is to be devoted to forming the road from the Lake, and push on the work during the dry weather. ■■ ■ A judicious disbursement of these moneys will prove l most welcome to settlers in that outlying part of the county, and should result in solid benofit in giving them readier access to lhe outside woild, and by lowering the cost of transportation of goods either in or out. The Huntly Road Board has already effected some repairs to bad pieces (of long standing) oil the road between the Great South ' Road -and the Matahura Gorge, and during* the present summer'season will no.doubt put i the swampy parts in such repairs as will render them more passable in the winter season than they have been hitherto. The Board also intend to undertake the formation ol parts of the Great South road between Mr Shaw's at the entrance to the Taupiri Gorge, and Toles' Hill Ohmewai.' Some very bad places in the Gorge near Collin's are also to be attended to. ; , :; ?;•>; Sunday School 1 ANNivRRSART. - The Huntly Sunday, school anniversary services were held here yesterday in St. Paul's church, MrMuldoon of the Freeman's Bay Helping-HandMission kindly came up and conducted them. There was not a large (tendance of adults at the morning or Afternoon services,, but, at, the evening service the church was well filled. The singing was excellent, the choir and children having practiced assiduously for some time prior to the occasion under the leadership of Mr Shaw superintendent. Mr Muldqon's 0 addresses wer3 very earnest and appropriate and be is evidently at home in engaging the attention of children and rendering his teaching attractive to thorn. A prayer me,BtiiK» conducted by Mr Dent of Aucfc Jnnu who accompanied Mr Muldoon, took place after the'evenirig service, to which a fair number devoted themselves. An Old Offender.— Ant old offender named Murphy, was arrested on a charge of drunkeness. Owing to the rough treatment received by :the Constable at the hands (or rather'feet) of Mr Murphy he will have to answer a "further charge of assault when brought before the court this morning.
