AN ACTIVE VOLCANO.

The stream of lava extends to Dip Point, and a column of steam rises to a height of 4500 feet. Violent submarine disturbances have been experienced, smoke and fire rising near the south mission station. Frequent earthquakes are felt, and as far as Maleula Island all is covered with dust. Six natives have been killed by falling stones, November 14, The official report states that H.M.s. Dart removed eighty natives from the vicinity of the volcano at Anibryn Island, nearly all of them belonging to Dr. Lamb's mission station. They were conveyed to a place comparatively safe near Eonou and afterwards takeu back to Dip Point when the danger had passed away. A great portion of the cliff at Dip Point has fallen into the sea and the French trader there has removed his belongings to Port Sandwich.
