SALE OF WORK.

Thb Sale of Work and Christmas Tree in aid of the funds of St. Peter's Church, Hamilton, was held in the Public Hall, Hamilton, on Saturday, and we aro sure that the promoters have every reason to be pleased with the success that crowned their efforts, iind from which a net sum of over £(iOwill accrue to thechurch funds. For some months the ladies of the parish held weekly bees, at which useful articles and others, dear to the feminine heart, were made in large numbers, and these with the donations from many friends outside the parish made a beautiful collection when the sale was declared open on Saturday morning. l The goods were tastefully arranged on two stalls, oue presided over by the married ladies'committee, and the other by the younger ladies of the parish, and on this latter the Roods were all made or provided by the young ladies themselves. The • weather-throughout the day was glorious, and although the attendance was not large in the forenoon, the hall was kept well filled throughout the afternoon and evening, and the fair attendants were busy attending to the wants of visitors. A light luncheon and afternoon tea was provided by Mrs Biggs and Mrs Graham, who were assisted by Miss Biggs, Mjss McPherwn' and other young ladies, and the refreshments dtintily served on the stage, which was arranged as a drawing room, were very acceptable. A very handsomely dressed Christmas trees was conducted by the Misses Coates, A. Sondes, and others throughout the day, and these young ladies did a thriving business, the tree being more than once stripped only to be quickly replenished with other useful and attractive articles. The centre of admiration for the younger girls was tlie "Bride" doll and tho lucky recipient of : this was Miss(E. Dyer, who was particularly proud of her gift, In the afternoon the " Cachucv" was danced by eight children in fancy costume, and it was so exceedingly well done that the children by spscial request repeated it lat?r on; and Miss Reid, by whom they were trained was the recipient of many congratulations on the result of her labours, The young performers were Misses N. O'Neill, Chitty, K. Hume, Swarbrisk, and Ansley, and Masters. T .£, Stevens, L. O'Neill and vocal and instrum&taPselections given during the afternoqn were' greatly appreciated.
