WAINGARO ITEMS.

Lady Voters,-At the polling booth here on Tuesday, November 2Sth, the ladies mustered in considerable force and proved their ability to exercise the franchise in an intelligent manner, as they gave their votes to the right candidate and did not furnish one informal vote. Waingaro, we presume, is the only block vote recorded in the electorate, and we'are all pleased that the nominee of the so-called "Liberal Association " haa been relegated whence he came.

The'"country bumpkins," as our city friends are pleased to call us, have proved a that they can and will choose their own representative, and do not in such a matter need the advice of their city trienrJa, who would expross'their indignation in no very measured terms if the bumpkins were to send one of their .nominees and ask them to return him as their representative. Cricket and Pon).-After recording their votes a number ofgentlemen went as far asMr Picken'spaddock and indulged in a game of cricket till the ball was. lost in the Waingaro stream. A game of polo, married v. single, eventuated in a .decisive, fictory for the married,< who scored three (foals to nil in the first spell and one goal to nil in the second. The single side were over-matched from start to finish. Rainbow Trout.-Since reporting the find of a dead rainbow trout in the Waingaro stream, several fine fish have been seen in different places of the same; stream, conclusively proving the successful introduction of thefishr .* i =?:/. Thirds Comj[lTTEe.-A meeting of the Thirds Committee was held on Tuesday at the residence of Mr J. K; McDonald, the members present being Messrs Foster, Viningi Hewett and McDonald (in the chair),- to consider a thirds scheme which; had been returned from, the; Land Board for more minute particulars re the works >on which it was proposed to expend the money, and it was decided that the chairman send it back unamended, as the committee consider the Land Board seem determined, if possible, to,assume the functions of both County Council and Thirds Committee, and •ontend that the, regulations to which the Land Board would wish to subject both bodies are. unworkable and vexatious, besides being "ultra:vires." The thirds expenditure is likely to becDme a burning question unless ! the irritating interference of the Land Board is very considerably abated. The schedule forms which are flow sent to local bodies to fill in are a very different thing to the forms issued formerly, and have been no end of annoyance to. the local bodies interested, several of which have already entered'strong protests, and combined action is likely to be taken soon toi pufca stop to so much, red tape and exasperating official annoyance. ■■.
