WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.

I'HK usual monthly meeting of the Waikiito County Council was held in the Council Chambers. Hamilton Bust, yesterday afternoon. There were present: Crs. Primrose (chairman), Barugh, Johnston, torrent, Paton and Coates. Furze.—The clerk reported that on the 14th inst., the day following the date of the expiration of the legal notices to clear ftirxe he visited the Rangiriri district, and had employed Mr \V. Birss to cut 'the fur/.e on the road adjoining the properties of those who hod not complied with the notice. Enginkku.— There being a misunderstanding with regard ta the question of experses which would be claimed by Mr Gwynneth when employed as engineer by the Council, the clerk wrote to Mr Gwynneth stating that the Council held expenses to be only railway fare and horse hire. In reply Mr Gwynneth stated that he intended when offering his services at one guinoa per day and expenses, that the expenses should also include hotel expenses. The Council not agreeing with Mr Gwynneth's interpretation of his terms the clerk was instructed to call for applications or an engineer for the Rangiriri outlying district to be in at next meeting. Mokrangi Ro.\D.-Mr R. Jones wrote with reference to the Matahura-Moeranei road asking that the Council take some steps to have this road made passable and also in the right place as he had been informed that the Messrs Hill Bros had fenced in the right road. Mr Hubbard wrote on this same subject. He offered to put up a slab bridge near Mr Hills for £0, but an the Maoris threaten to fence off this road it will cut off all communication and he would be glad to assist the engineer in determing the proper position of the road. Hi also called attention to the bad state of two pieces of swamp on the Huutly-Mata-hurft road which require fascinuig. Cr. Johnson pointed out the necessity for this work and it was decided to call for tenders for fascining and claying these places to be in at next meeting. With reference tJ the encroachment on the road. Cr. Johnson sail that he had seen Mrs Hill and her sons on this matter and they had told nun that both Mr Hazard and Mr Sandes had surveyed the place and certified that their fences were quite correct. It was decided that this matter be deferred until the apoointment of an engineer. Mr Hubbard s offer to put up the slab bridge for £o was accepted . . -~ • v a Kohekoa.—Mrs Olivia Downing applied for the road to her section in Koheroa Riding to be made fit for cart traffic, as as present she has to pack all her goods, bhe estimated the cost of the wurk at about £7. Culvert.—Mr Ciapoott, manager tor Captain Parker, ottered to bear half the cost of putting in pipes under the road between the Kanaka Creek and Churchill, where the present culvert has caved in.— Cr. Johnson said that this drain had been made some years ago by Mr Sel wood without the permission of the Council, and ii rough bridge put up, which had now collapsed. He thought it would be a bad precedent to uudertake the work, as others who were in the same position would be likely to make similar applications.—lhe clerk was instructed to inform Mr Olapcott that the Council did not put the culvert there, but they will allow him to put in pipes, otherwise the Couucill would till the drain up, which, Cr. Johnson said, could be done for about £1 10s. Gate.—Mr J. R. Hill wrote stating that he had erected a gate on the road through his property before he knew it was necessary to apply to the Council; he now did this —There being no objection, the Council decided to comply with the request on the usual terms. Oamiuudgk Bridge.—A notification was received from Captain Jackson stating that the court, to determine the contributing bodies to the Cambridge bridge, will be held at 10.30 a.m. on Thursday next.-ihe clerk was instructed to request Messrs Taylor and Gwynneth to attend the court as witnesses. . Road Altbkations.— There being no objections to the alteration of certain roads in the Kirikiriroa road district, the matter was confirmed. .
