FOOTBALL.

WIIATAWHATA V. TUIIIKAUAMEA. The return match between the above (junior) teams came off nn Saturday last in Mr Calder's paddc ck, Whatawhata, Messrs S. Reid and Po Rewa acting as referees. The afternoon was a most delightful one for out-door sports, and quite a number of visitors, including many ladies, took advantage of it to be present. Unfoitunately the Paterangi contingent did not turn up, so that the match was played by eight Tuhikiiramea boys against fifteen of their opponents. As might be supposed, the contest was not a verv close one, the ball being kept in the ruhikaramoa ground pretty generally throughout the game. This finally resulted in a win for Whatawhata by 17 points to nil, each team having now won a game. The boys on both sides played a very pretty good game, and in the opinion of the on-lookers, would have been all the better without the one or two men who were allowed to play. Master V. Meredith and Claude Grace plyed well for Whatawhata, while "Dick" Livingston and Neil Reid did sterling work for their little band. In fact, but for "Dick's' long arms and sure collaring, many a try would have been added to their opponents' core.

A meeting of the members of the Hamilton Football Club was held in the Waikato Times Buildings on Saturday evening. At the commencement of the season Mr R. J. Gwynne gave a medal for the best allround play, and the following players were nominated for the position : J. A. Gillett, W. Hammond, J. H. Hume, and A. Peacock. On a ballot being taken Mr Hammond was awarded the medal It was resolved to present the caps won by the Club, at a Negro Minstrel concert, to be held in the Volunteer Hall, Hamilton on Wednesday, October 12th. A number of gentlemen have promised to give their service, and there le every prospect of a good programme being laid before the public on that evening.
