the bridge. Thk Ralakck Sheet.—The yearly balance sheet In March 31st, 1892, was received from the Auditor General duly certified to as correct, it was then signed by th 9 Mayor. Re this matter the Audit Inspector. Mr W, R. H.ilmes, wrote tho Mayor, on 22nd August, as follows:— " I havo examined the books and documents of the Borough of Cambridge up to date, and the balance sheet foe the year endpd 3lst March, has been forwarded for

Will you please enquire from the hue clerk why they were detached from the butts without an explanation. Dyer, of Hamilton, wrote on hebalf of Sir Wm. Wastsneys, enquiring who had possession of the premises formerly known as the Waikato News Office." Henson, of Cambridge, also wrote :— " Seing that the Borough Council has given instructions to the Duniin Board to proceerl with the fence on Thornton R>ad, I beg respect fully to protest against any encroachment on the width of the said road in front of my property—viz., sections 577 and 590, and re-pectfnlly ivquest tlmt you witlcau*e the removal of the present obstruction.—The clerk was instructed to write t> Colonel Frasijr that the Council would prefer having ;i personal interview with him before proceeding with the matter further.—Mr Hanson's letter was received. When the alterations are imde they will be carried out under " The Public Works Act-.." an* will be dnlv published. The first w.i* frim Mr Kensington, under date 30th August, stating that Mr Mueller had been unable to fulfill the promise made by sending Mr Cussen to do the stindard survey, but that Mr Phillips will he sent to do the work. Tfo then asked if the Council could get concrete blocks made for the surveyor's nss. —To this the Town Cletk had replied that the blocks could be 1-ic.illy made, and asking how many would he required.—A reply was received from Mr Muell»r on the fJth tnst, stating that 100 blocks would be required. The letter concluded : "As thn Thames Borough supplied the blocks, I suppose you will do the same." The Council thought the Survey Department should pay for the blocks, and the clerk was instructed ti write to Mr Mueller io that effect. Works Committkb Report.—-This report stated that the surfaceman had been employed full tiiuo during thn month. During that time ho had repaired Moon's and Iviley's hills, repaind the fences trimmed the hedges, pruned the trees, and grabber] up the furze in the Government paddock, eiv>ct p d a new culvert in Alphastreet, and cleansed the one in Cliapelstroot, cleansed the Karapirn bridge, and nimidnd the fence adjoining it. The balance of his time had brwn occupied in spreading gravel and doing minor lepaivs to tho roads. During the last week 371 loads of gravel were put upon the following streets :—Lake-street, 38 loads; Kirkwood street, 72 loads; Queen-street, 201 loads, The committee urged the Council to secm-fl another site-for a gravel-pit, the one now in use being nearly worked out.— The report was approved and adopted.
