. • WELLINGTON DKKEATS CANTER- I BURY. (11V TELEGRAPH. —I'IiESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, Last Night. Till! match, Wellington v. Canterbury, was played this afternoon in the presence of between 8000 and 4000 people. The weather was fine, but the ground uas ankle deep in mud. Lady Glasgow was present, and was cheered by the teams. The state o' the ground precluded any chance of an interesting game, but it was more one-siued than expected after Canterbury's victories in the North. The local men played a winning game all through, and scored a goal and a try (7 points) in the first spell. This was increased by another goal, making 12 points against 5, seined by the visitors from a penalty kick. The fine collaring and following up of the Wellington men were too much for their opponents, who seemed to play with little heart on finding out tho state of the ground.
The visitors left this evening for Lyttd ton.
