I'ItOTK.ST.S. — The P.itrrangi team's protest against Wh.itawliau bi.i.it; awarded tin match played at Whatiwhata (in August 27th had been deferred from 1 ist ■iici-tini;. Tlie Paterangi doleg.it'-s iwv asked permission to withdraw tlie pi-iie.-t, and the request was granted.—The piote-t In Ig.'d by the Huntly club ag r.n-t 11. imdt.on being awarded the match pl.yed in Sjptember 3rd was then rc.nl as publish* d in our issue nf September lith—Mr I''. Oait'r moved that this meeting adj.mm to Xgmi iwahia on September l-)th, as the witn-s-es lie intended culling "'<i r,i »'l tbere. —Mr '•'•■•'■ Edgeeumbe seconded pro forma. —Mr R. .], Crivynnu moved as an anvm luient that the protest be gone on with at this meeting. —Seconded by Mr T. C. Sandes.—On the amendment being put, Mr Carter only voted against, and the voting being vice versa for the motion the ativiidmeut was declared cnrrhd.— The Chairman then said, as Huntly were the protesting party the onus of proof rested with them, and he then called upon Mr Carter, the only Huntly delegate present, to state his ease.—Mr Carter said they protested on the grounds that Hume went out of bounds when he scored his try. -It wa- pointed <ut to Mr Carter that allowing Home did go out of bounds, and the retiree gave the try, no Union could alter his decision ; and azain, as the line umpire did not appeal until after a try had been given, no notice could be taken of his appeal on a point which had occurred before a decision had been given. —Mr Sauries tiwv d that Mr Crowe, the referee, he asked 11 make a statement upon the case, and the secretary was instructed to take it down.—Seconded by Mr Himmond.—Mr I'jdgecumbe said that he thought Mr Crowe .should not be called upon to explain any decision he gave.—Mr Crowe then said : "Mr Hume's going into ' touch ' with the ball was a matter of doubt to me. I was not in a position to see, and looked earefuliy round tor an appeal from the line umpire but saw none, I think Mr Hume went suspiciously close to the line, however there was no appeal and I allowed the try. After giving my do; ision, I saw the lino umpire, put up his Hag, but as it is one of the roles of Rugby tint the appeal should be made immediately the infringement takes place of course tho appeal was too late." In answer to MrS m Iks. Mr Crowe said the appeal was made after the try had allowed.—Mr Gwynne quoted rules bearing upon the point in question as in the Auckland Rugby Union Annual for 1S!)2. They are on pige 7-1, in the paragraph referring to the appointment of touch judges, where it says : '" The referee shall have the power of overruling their decisions," and then on page 71, in Rule 2 Section 4 : "If the referee does not immediately blow his whistle it shall to taken that he disillows the appeal, and the game shall proceed, as though no appeal hud been mode, without any further consultation." He said in the face of these rules, he did not see how the Union had aoy power whatever to altor the decisions of a referee. If a referee's decision was to be over-ruled by a Union tho sooner referees were done away with the better. He also pointed out that really the protest was of no use, as in lodging it the by-laws ot the Union had not been complied with, there being no deposit of 10s (H with it.—With reference to tlie appeal not being made, Mr Carter said that the line umpirj who was on the outside of tlie crowd could not hold his flag up for the spectators.—Mr Crowe said he looked most anxiously for an appeal, as it was a question of doubc to him. He saw the Hnntlv line umpire running to the spot, where Hume was supposed to have gone out. That official should have known his place better, than to have got on the outside of the crowd, although they, pet-haps, were mostly to blame.—Mr McNicol said considering the fact of the line umpire being on the outside of the crow J, he wondered how it was possible for him to tell whether Hume, went out or not.—Mr W. O. Macky then moved, and Mr Ryburn seconded that tho protest entered by the Huntly team, against Hamilton being awarded the mutch played on September 3rd, LS92, bo not sustained.—This was carried unanimously, no one dissenting.

The Premiership 1892.— Mr Gwynuo proposed, and Mr Rvburn seconded, that in accordance with By-law 24, the Hamilton Football Club be declared the winners of the caps for the year ISO 3, and that the secretary be instructed to procure from Mr J. A. Cooper Ki caps at it cost of (is Gd each. —This was also carried unanimously.

A CAUTION.—R, Harrison, one of the Hamilton team was reported for disputing the referee's decision, and in accordance with the rules it was resolved that he bo cautioned.

Funds.—A statement of receipts and ex ponditnre was read and when all accounts are settled there will remain a small credil balance.

Banners.—Mr R. J. Gwynno drew attention to the fact that there were two clubs in Waikato, Hamilton and Huntly, with the year 18i)t on their banners. Hamilton was the premier club in that year and he claimed they only had the right to put that year on their banner. He did not wish to make any resolution upon the matter, and Mr Carter nr.miised to comply with the wish of the Union, that Huntly be requested to take that year off. Thanks. —A vote of thanks was passed to the hon. secretary, Mr 0. G. Knox, for his work during the past season, and one tj the delegates present for attending the meetings often at great inconvenience to themselves. —The meeting then closed.
