DISTRICT OF WAIKATO HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Thb usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Hamilton Borough Council Chambers yesterday. There were present : Messrs A. Primrose (chairman), C. A. Davis, W. H. Herries, J. S, Browne, H. M. Salmon, J. McGuirk, A. Heaney, J. B. Teasdale, S. T, Seddon, J. Anderson and F. W. Lang.

Dooley.—Mrs J. Dooley, of Rangiriri, wrote asking the Board to grant herself and her child some relief, as her father could not afford to support her.—The police oonstable reported that he did not recommend the case.

Auckland Hospital. — The house steward of the Auckland Hospital wrote that Tuliau Hiki, of Whatavvhata, had been admitted as an urgent case into the Hospital, and that a charge would be made in due course. He said the native stated that ho had land at WhaUwhata. Also, that A. Neil, of Oputua, had been re-adi»itted into the Auckland Hospital.

Lkask.—Mr T. Hunt, of Te Awamutu, wrote asking that as he had leased his farm at Tamahere to Mr R. Scott, would the Board be agreeable to his including in the lease Lot 137, Hospital Reserve, he being still liable for the rent. —Letter received.

Refuge.—James McGuire, aged 72, applied for admission to the Ilefnge until he was strong enough to work, he having only lately been discharged from the Hospital.—The application was granted. Fit/.patmck.—Mr Jas. S. Bond wrote enclosing a long letter from R. B. Fitzpatrick and saying he had no recommendation to make, but suggesting that the letter be preserved.—The Board decided, that as Mr Bond had no recomtnendHtion to make, they would njt hear the letter read. Buvdlnstitote.—Mr J. Thornes, hon. secretary of tho Auckland Institute for the Blind, wrote saying in answer to the application for the entrance of Mr McLeod to the institute, that at present arrangements were not complete for teaching adults trades, but that they were contemplating building more extensive workshops.—A cupy of the letter was ordered to be foiwarded to Mr McLeod.

Rm'OHTS. — The secretary's report showed that the Bank credit balance was £273 lis 3d ; subsidies due by Government, £203 Gs; contributions due by Piako County, £293 15s; Waikato County, £217 10s j Waipa County, £232 3s ; Raglan Country, £82 lis 9d; Hamilton Borough, £29 lis; £ for £ subsidy due by Government, £889 9s 3d ; Hospital fees receivable, £100; Hospital endowments rents receivable £10; total, £2425 las 9d, less accounts to be pa'd, £204; balance, £'2221 15s 9d. Amounts received since last meeting :—Waikato County, £200 ; Raglan County, £30 ; voluntary contributions, £27 15s ; Hospital fees receivable, £28 17s 5d ; rents received, £20; pig sold, £2 ss. It also showed that 21 persons were receiving charitable aid, and that there were 13 inmates in the Refuge, one paying for his maintenance at the r.ite of 7s per week, and one paying his pension, 6d per diem, towards his support. Luke Fitz-sininions had died in the Refuge on 22nd August. CHLOKoroRM.—An account of Dr. Kerr's for £li tis was passed for payment, for administering chlorof Kin at the rate of £1 Is for the first hour and 10s Od for every part of an hour. On the motion of Mr Lang seconded by Mr Teasdale, a return was ordered to be laid upon the table at the annual meeting of the Board of the amount expended in administering cholorofortn for the past 12 months.

Visiting Suhgeons.—ln accordance with notice of motion given at the last meeting Mr Lang moved that the Board ask such doctors as they think fit to become members ot the honorary staff of the Waikato Hospital subject to by-lawß No. 47 and 48 of the Thames Hospital. He said that it would be a great advantage to have a consulting stiff, and as they were in existence in other Hospitals, he thought it would be no harm to have them in Hamilton. It would not uiu'c nnitie the present surgeon's authority, but would rather give him more confidence, as when an urgent case came in he could call in some of the honorary staff for consultation. Mr Salmon seconded the motion. Mr Herries pointed out under the existing by laws, the surgeon has power to call in outside assistance. He thought it would he unwise to alter the present state of affairs, Mr Seddon said he agreed with Mr Chepwell, who whon talking the matter over thought it premature. The surgeon is at present responsible and if an honorary >t iff were appointed he did not know who would be. Mr Davis agreed with Mr Seddon. Mr Teasdale spoke in support of the motion, Messrs Primrose, McGuirk, Browne and Anderson apolce against it.—On the motion being put, there voted for it Messrs Lang, Salmon and Teasdale, and against the rest of the Board. The motion was therefore declared lost. Relief. —The usual relief for the month was granted. Notick OF Motion. —Mr McGuirk gave notice of motion that he would move that a return be laid upon the table at the next meeting, showing the number of patients admitted into the Hospital from each contributing district since the institution was established, the number of days in the Hospital, and the amount of fees paid (if any), and the amount still due.
