A MAN-EATING LEOPARD
The Calcutta Englishman contains a sensational aocount of the doings of a j man-eating leopard lately shot in the Rajsbahi distriot. in Bangui. The monster had deHtroyed 164 persons before he was brought down. His appetite for flesh, bis farooity, his canning, and his audacity were unexampled. tor miles around the people never ventured to leave their houses after nightfall until they heard be was dead. Bnt thin was no great hindrance to him. He would sieze them from their verandahs when they were smoking the evening pipe, and gombtimes he penetrated the very houses in the dead of nisrht, and carried away children—often without givinsr the slightest alarm to the inmates. As a rule, he killed only one per-on at a time, butsometimes he killed two, and. on one occasioa three in one day. Children and old women were his favourite food; among his victims there were but sis men. He was impelled by a sheer hankering tor tinman flesh for he never touched the cattle. The "villagers begsn to thiuk the scourge was a demon incarnate, and it was impossible to orgauis9 them for the pursuit. A* length some twenty elephants were brought together for an expedition, and a flyinsr column of British planters set forth in quest of the dostroyer. They searched for some time in vaiu, until an old man
