CRICKET.

TO THK KIMTOIt. Siu, —I have just seen Tuesday's issue of your paper, which contains a paragraph signed " Cover Point," but I have not yet quite made up toy mind whether it is a hoax or not. Bid the Taupiri team actually face the heavy rain on Saturday, or was there no rain in their neighbourhood ? Hereabouts it rained steadily from Friday until Saturday at noon, and though the members of out team live so far apart, they unanimously came to the conclusion, it appears, that it would be utter folly to start on a 20 mile ride under the circumstances. We all greatly regret that we had not the pleasure of meeting our Taupiri adversaries, but such a disappointment will occur in any country, and especially in such an uncertain clima'.e «as this colony boasts of. It has occurred to the Paterangi Club several times, and as lately as this season in Cambridge, where the game was stopped by rain after we had batted, yet we did not dream of claiming the match in consequence. We do not consider it any satisfaction to claim an empty honoar when there is 110 question of the result affecting the ishiio for the Cup, or even, I may say, if that were depending on it. In this case it is not a Cup match, and all we desire is a fair trial of strength with the Taupiri Club, free from luck, or unbiased by the umpires, or any other cause. Wo hope that our adversaries will acknowledge the good excuse we had for failing to put in an appearance last Saturday, and that they will endeavour to meet us yet this season, on which occasion we trust that the weather inay be more favourable and the repast equally sumptuous.—l am, &c., J.
