The manager of the ban!? had placed £141 in a bag for the purpose of bringing it into town, and after locking the door of the bank was standing ontsido awaiting the train, when he waa attacked from behind by a stranger who aimed a desperate blow at him, snatching the bag and making off. Aβ soon as the uianagcr recovered from the effect of the blow, he gave chase after the robber, and succeeded in securing him with the money in his possession. The man was given into the custody of the police. The Victorian Government lias given permission to a number of irrigation trusts to draw water from the Murray River. Sir Henry Parkes, Premiqr, is protesting against it being allowed on the ground that it is a breach of inter-colonial obligations. The Government have decided to speud the sum of £26,000, for the purpose of establishing mining schools throughout the colony, and £50,000 in the erection of Technical Colleges, in the same interest.
